Intelligent radiology workflow optimization with AI agents

AWS has published a blog post detailing an intelligent radiology workflow optimization system using AI agents. The framework addresses the common problem of radiologists cherry-picking easier, higher-value cases while avoiding complex studies, which leads to diagnostic delays and increased costs. The system uses AI agents to dynamically assign studies based on radiologist specialization, current workload, fatigue levels, and case complexity. In a study across 62 hospitals analyzing 2.2 million studies, the approach reduced cherry-picking and improved turnaround times for complex cases. The solution is built on AWS services including Amazon SageMaker for model training and AWS Lambda for serverless execution. The blog post includes a reference architecture and code samples for implementation. The system is available now for healthcare organizations using AWS.
