JetBrains open-sources Mellum2 to go where Claude Code can’t
JetBrains announced on Monday it has open-sourced Mellum2, a 12-billion-parameter coding model designed for the infrastructure layer of agentic AI. Unlike larger models such as Claude Code, Mellum2 is optimized for scenarios where latency, cost, or privacy constraints make cloud-based models unsuitable. The model is available under an open-source license, allowing developers to run it locally or on private servers.
