pgBackRest will continue
pgBackRest, a widely used backup and restore solution for PostgreSQL, has announced its continuation under new maintainership. The original creator, David Steele, stepped down from the project, but the community has rallied to ensure its future. The new maintainer, Stephen Frost, a long-time PostgreSQL contributor and member of the PostgreSQL Core Team, will oversee development. The project remains open-source under the MIT license, and the existing codebase and documentation will be preserved. This transition ensures that users can continue to rely on pgBackRest for features like parallel backup, incremental restore, and cloud storage support. The announcement was made on the pgBackRest news page, with no disruption to ongoing releases or support. The next release is expected to follow the usual schedule, maintaining compatibility with PostgreSQL 16 and earlier versions.
Ensures continued reliability and development of a critical PostgreSQL backup tool.
